Formation: Contra lines. 1st, 3rd, 5th, etc., couples active and crossed over, OR as a circle contra with similar starting position. Start the dance by facing corner and joining right hands. Counts ACTIONS and EXPLANATIONS 1- 8 WITH THE CORNER BALANCE, THEN BOX THE GNAT – All face and join right hands with corners and balance. Then exchange places with a Box the Gnat (lady twirls left-face under joined right hands) ending facing same person. 9-16 SAME DANCERS SWING. End with lady on man's right side, facing partner across the set. Progression has now occurred, as actives have moved down the set one position, inactives up one position. 17-24 THOSE FOUR CIRCLE LEFT – Those who swung and their partners across the set circle four to the left exactly once around. 25-32 SAME FOUR LEFT HAND STAR – Same four star left exactly once around, ending with each man placing his right arm around the waist of the lady whom he swung, holding her left hand in his left hand to promenade the natural way up or down the set, on their own side of the set. 33-40 PROMENADE IN TWOS AND WHEEL TURN – Active man and the lady he swung will promenade as a couple UP the set and inactive man and the lady he swung will promenade DOWN the set at least 4 counts. Then each couple wheel-turns in readiness for the promenade in the opposite direction. 41-48 COME BACK TO PLACE, FACE THE SAME TWO AND BACK INTO OWN LONG LINES. 49-56 RIGHT AND LEFT THRU ACROSS THE SET. 57-64 SLOW HALF SQUARE THRU – Each dancer takes the right hand of partner and crosses the set using 4 counts of music to do so. Each then faces the person with whom he/she did the right and left thru and pulls by that person with the left hand, using 4 counts of music, and faces a new corner to begin the dance again.
