THE TUCKER WALTZ

A mixer dance something like musical chairs.

Record: LS 121

Couples stand in a large circle around the room, all facing CCW
and taking Varsouvianna pos. Two or three lone men (or women)
wait in the center of the circle.

When the music starts, each couple in the circle, beginning with
the L, starts two-stepping fwd, advancing side by side. The lone
men (women) cut in at as widely separated points in the circle as
possible, and each claims a woman. When one of them steps in
front of a man to claim his woman, the man must give her up
instantly and roll back LF to the next woman behind. Her man
must give her up and roll back to the next. Thus a wave of rolling
back progresses down the line. In rolling back, each man lets go his
woman completely and turns LF, still holding his R hand high. In
this pos it sweeps naturally around behind the next lady and falls
instantly into the Varsouvianna pos.

The trick is to roll back to the next woman so quickly and neatly
that you are never caught without a partner.

When the time comes for the waltz to start, "grab" that woman or
the nearest woman, in regular (closed) waltz pos, and do a turning
waltz with her around the circle. Once the waltz starts, you do not
have to give up your partner, so don't let the man that is rolling
back to you step in and take her. The men who fail to get a partner
have to step into the center of the circle and wait for the waltz to
end.

As soon as the music for another two-step begins, the lone men
may then jump into the circle again and claim a partner.
