Music: "On the Carousel"
Formation: Couples in a single circle, all hands joined and facing
center, woman on man's R.
Footwork: Opposite throughout the dance. Start on man's L,
woman's R.
Introduction: Acknowledge partners and corners.
Measures
1-4 ROCK FWD, TOUCH, ; BACK, TOUCH, ; LADIES
ROLL RIGHT; JOIN HANDS
Starting man's L, balance fwd, touch and hold; balance
back on man's R, touch and hold; as man does a step, touch
and hold sideward to L; and a step, touch and hold sideward
to R, all the women roll R-face to their R across in front of
their corners, momentarily joining both hands as they do so,
and ending facing the center in the large circle as their
previous corner's new partner.
4-8 Repeat measures 1-4, making second partner change.
9-12 ROCK FWD, TOUCH, ; BACK, TOUCH, ; MEN ROLL
LEFT; JOIN HANDS
Balance fwd and back as in measures 1-2; then as woman
does a step, touch, and hold sideward to R, and a step,
touch and hold sideward to L, all the men roll L-face to
their L across in front of their corners, momentarily joining
both hands as they do so, ending facing the center with their
previous corner as their new partner.
13-16 Repeat measures 9-12, making a fourth partner change.
17-20 ROCK FWD, TOUCH,; BACK, TOUCH,;EVERYBODY ROLL ACROSS; JOIN HANDS
Balance fwd and back as in measures 1-2. Then as woman
repeats her action of rolling R-face to the R, cross in front
of man but without hands being touched, man also rolls to
L with L-face roll crossing in back of woman (on outside of
circle); end facing center in the large circle with previous
corners as new partners.
21-24 Repeat measures 17-20, making 6th partner change but
ending facing the new partner with both hands joined, men
facing LOD.
25-28 STEP, SWING, ; STEP, SWING, ; SLIDE IN, ; SLIDE IN,
Stepping twd COH sideward on men's L (woman's R)
swing other foot cross in front and hold; stepping twd wall
sideward on man's R, swing other foot cross in front, and
hold (take one step per measure); step, draw-step, twd
COH; and repeat. (A true canter is nice here, but this is a
gay and un-technical dance and perfection is not the final
goal)
29-32 STEP, SWING, ; STEP, SWING, ; LADY TWIRLS; JOIN HANDS
Stepping away from COH on men's R (woman's L) and
hold; step twd COH on man's L, swing other foot cross in
front, and hold; as man slides out, woman twirls L-face
under her L and man's R hands in 2 measures, ending
facing center in the circle with all hands joined ready to
begin the dance again. End by acknowledging partner.
NOTE: Ladies always roll R-face and to their right. Men always
roll L-face and to their left. Ladies roll twice, men roll twice.
